One of nature's oddities is the Aye-Aye. The pictures above show this creature and a close-up of it's hand. You see that one weird boney finger. Creepy huh? To get some really creepy shots check out the first link below, there is even some video of this wonderful little thing.
So anyway, the Aye-Aye is a small primate, more specifically a member of the lemur family, that lives in Madagascar. It is nocturnal and feeds on grubs, fruits, nuts, nectar, seeds and fungi. Grubs make up a large part of its diet and the way that it gets them is really interesting. Using that really long boney finger it taps on wood and listens to the sound that the taps make. Using this method it can locate grubs that have bored into a tree. It then uses its sharp teeth to chew away the bark and find the grub. Then it uses that long finger again to dig inside the hole that the grub has made and fish him out. You can seem some of this in action by visiting the first link below. Altogether a really weird but awesome animal. Hopefully we can keep them from becoming extinct.

I watched one of the videos. How did they get the camera into the tree with the grub. I'm sure the Aye Aye would have noticed if they made a cross-section of it. Perhaps they used one of those colon cams.
